Meet the Innovators: HE3DA USA Inc.
2019 NASA iTech Cycle II Finalist:
HE3DA USA Inc. of Reno, Nevada
Innovation:
Innovative energy storage for planetary surface power applications that reduces dependence on ancillary systems.
What is your technology?
Our lithium battery technology’s novel 3D electrode architecture is a game-changer that brings incomparable battery safety and cost-competitiveness. It's an entirely recyclable solution for manufacturing. The tech is scalable and offers unlimited cell size options, minimizing the use of electronic controls. Remediation of the environment, reliable battery energy storage, even faster jet planes; they all can start with a small pile of nanomaterial powders.
What should people know about your team?
Research and development for this technology began 10 years ago with Dr. Jan Prochazka –president of HE3DA USA – disappearing in his lab for a week to get the initial idea for the innovative battery architecture. Now, our first Gigafactory is about to open in the Czech Republic and we are raising capital for a second factory in the U.S.
We are motivated, educated, experienced individuals, with an immense drive to disrupt the energy storage industry, and we love to take technologies to the limit. One fun fact about our team is that Prochazka is an avid guitar and harmonica player and another member plays drums, violin, piano and composes music on the side. Together, we could be a great band!
What do you look forward to most about the NASA iTech forum?
We look forward to meeting with other teams, learning about their innovations and most importantly, presenting our technology to the public.
This information was provided by HE3DA USA Inc. NASA iTech is a year-long effort to find innovative ideas that could address challenges facing space exploration. Ten competition finalists will present their ideas Oct. 7-8, 2019, at a NASA iTech forum in Las Cruces, New Mexico. At the culmination of the forum, three winning teams will be selected and recognized during a non-monetary awards ceremony.
